In Wonderland

This weekend I head to LA where I will meet up with friend and fellow inkpunk, Andrew Penn-Romine and together we will descend upon the current LACMA show:
In Wonderland; The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artists in Mexico and the United States.*

I'll be doing a more extensive writeup about the show, the artists** and surrealism in general for my Art Nerd column, but meanwhile, I have purchased a brand new sketchbook. Just for this trip. Andy and I intend to spend several hours with pen and paper in front of these pieces, digging deep and finding our own stories. (Inspired by Nancy Hightower.)

After the show, in the tradition of the surrealists, there will be cocktails and rounds of exquisite corpse! A perfect Art Date for my muse. Huzzah!

*An exceptional review of the show by Christopher Knight can be found at the LA Times.

** The images shown here are Frida Kahlo's The Two Friedas, and Helen Lundberg's Double Portrait of the Artist in Time 2.

  1. Oh, how awesome! I haven't gone to a showing in forever. I think the last one I went to was Mark Ryden's "Wondertoonel" exhibit, and I just adore his work. Have a wonderful time!

  3. Ah...so THAT'S what that game was called. I'll have to try that again sometime, although I think most my friends might be too tame to incorporate foot and spitwads. (Perhaps we can call that version "Exquisite Corpse: The Biohazard Edition.")
